This backland site in South London, formerly occupied by two small garage blocks, has been reimagined as a pair of generous detached family homes within a mature residential setting. While early advice suggested planning permission would likely be limited to more modest semi-detached houses, this ambitious scheme has secured consent for two substantial homes with private gardens.
The design focuses on light, space and privacy. Each house is arranged to feel calm and generous inside, with vaulted ceilings and carefully placed openings drawing daylight deep into the plan. Large internal volumes and well-proportioned spaces create a sense of ease throughout, with living areas designed to connect naturally to the garden beyond.
Each home sits within its own private garden. The material palette of buff brick and green-toned metal is grounded and contextual, responding to the surrounding greenery and giving the houses a quiet, contemporary character that sits comfortably within the landscape.
