The restoration and extension of a neglected townhouse, and its division into three homes.

Location: South London
Project type: Conversion, renovation and extension
Number of units: 3
Client type: Small-scale developer
Status: Completion due 2026
Area: 200sqm

This project brings a neglected South London townhouse back into use, transforming a building that had been poorly altered over time — formerly a takeaway with an unloved HMO above — into three spacious and comfortable flats.

A mansard roof extension forms a key part of the scheme, sitting comfortably within the surrounding roofscape and creating a duplex apartment at the top of the building. Two roof terraces to the rear of the building offer quiet and private outdoor space with long views across South London.

The existing building is being carefully repaired and restored, with brickwork made good, new windows and doors introduced, and the original façade reinstated behind a previously unsympathetic shopfront. A full upgrade to the building fabric will improve comfort and energy performance throughout.

The result is a calmer, more coherent building that makes better use of what is already there — creating light, comfortable homes and bringing new life to an overlooked part of the street.
